A teacher’s aide charged last month with possession of kiddie porn was re-arrested when FBI agents made a disturbing discovery, two of the videos were shot inside a Brooklyn elementary school. Click below to read the rest of the story.
Videos depicting Taleek Brooks touching a boy’s genitals and spanking a naked child in a school classroom were discovered on his home computer, according to a criminal complaint unsealed Friday.
The videos appear to have been shot inside Public School 243, known as The Weeksville School in Bedford Stuyvesant, where Brooks had worked as an aide since July 2001.
In a disturbing photo that Brooks posted on his school blog, he is dressed as the Easter bunny and has his arm around children.
Brooks, 40, shook his head slowly as Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Polemeni urged the judge to revoke the his bail, calling him a “danger to society.”
“The defendant is seen in videos fondling children,” Polemeni said.
Brooks, who had been in city schools since 1995, was free on $100,000 bail after spending weeks jailed at the Metropolitan Detention Center. During his incarceration, Brooks was briefly under a suicide watch.
“Had I known of this conduct there’s no way I would have released him under any circumstances,” said Brooklyn Magistrate Joan Azrack.
He had admitted collecting and saving more than 1,000 digital files, which he traded on a daily basis with other child porn viewers for about seven years, according to the complaint.
The prosecutor explained that it took some time for FBI agents to review the large number of files.
Brooks also told an FBI agent in an Internet chat room that he was “interested in black boys 10 years old and older,” according to the complaint.
He also worked at an after school program at the school, the Madison Square Boys and Girls club.
It was not immediately clear whether the victims in the homemade video had been identified.
Chancellor Dennis Walcott was meeting with the principal and staff Tuesday, and a letter will be sent home to students.
