A 21-year-old woman fell or jumped to her death from a luxury high-rise condo building near the United Nations Sunday night. The motives have not been determined and foul play is not been ruled out. Click below to read the rest of the story.
The woman’s body was found mangled on the pavement in front of 100 United Nations Plaza on the corner of E. 48th St. and First Ave. around 11:40 p.m., police and witnesses said.
The woman died at the scene, her body draped with a white sheet, witnesses said. Her pocketbook was lying a few feet from her body.
It was unclear if the woman, whose name was not immediately released, had jumped or fallen from the building, police said.
Dino Sajudin, 40, a doorman across the street, said his friends came running in the building after the saw the woman on the ground. They were screaming, “She just jumped! She just jumped!” he said.
“We crossed the street together and we saw her lying there with branches all over her,” Sajudin said. “I think she fell through the tree.”
Deb Alter was walking home with her teenage daughter and 10-year-old son after grocery shopping when they came upon the grisly scene.
“We flipped out,” she said. “My little boy was really shaken up.”
The woman had long, black hair and was wearing grey UGG boots, she said. Another witness said the woman was fully dressed with her coat on.
Cops were examining the 14th-floor balcony of the building, which houses a number of diplomats.
One man, who declined to give his name, was interviewed by cops about what he saw.
“I just heard a scream,” the man said, declining to elaborate.
Police are continuing to investigate the death, officials said.
