A suspected carjacker was shot and killed after firing at an off-duty police officer in Brooklyn. He crashed the car then got out of the car walked several blocks and (allegedly) fired at the officer. Click below to read the rest.
Police spokesman Paul Browne says the 22-year-old suspect was pronounced dead at a hospital after the 4:15 a.m. shooting in Cypress Hills.
Browne says the suspect was in a car that had just been hijacked when he struck a divider and a light pole on Cyprus Street near Jamaica Avenue.
The man then got out of the car and walked several blocks down Jamaica Avenue and fired at the off-duty police lieutenant.
Browne says the officer, who had followed the suspect from the crash scene, returned fire, striking him.
The suspect has been identified as Christopher Kissane, of Queens. Police say his .22 caliber revolver was found at the scene with four bullets remaining in the cylinder. A plastic bag with 15 additional rounds was also recovered.
The officer was not injured.
The vehicle that Kissane crashed had been carjacked at gunpoint about 15 minutes prior to his run-in with the lieutenant.
He had also been suspected in an attempted armed robbery and in an attempted carjacking in Queens earlier Thursday, police say.
