It is customary in South Korea to honor the dead, well with the lack of burial space, beads have become popular. Many South Koreans find placing the ashes of dead into urns distasteful.
A new company called Bonhyang, transforms the ashes into blueish beads. The process grinds the deceased’s ashes even finer, then heats them and shapes them into beads.
Some critics find it unholy; however, the CEO of Bonhyang says, “You don’t feel that these beads are creepy or scary. In fact, there’s a holiness and warmth to them.”
