Investigators said police responded to Mathis’ home after a disturbance was reported in November. When an officer arrived, police say Mathis came out of the home screaming and spit on the officer who tried to arrest him. The officer had to use pepper spray to arrest Mathis. Prosecutors say the officer was not hurt during the scuffle. Prosecutors say Mathis has convictions that date back to 1997 including inhaling hydrocarbons, grand larceny and public disorderly conduct.
