Technically a concept car, the e-NV200 will enter limited production in the near future, Nissan says. Expect a few tweaks for the production version, but the basic technology and shape will be unchanged.
Like the similar Nissan Leaf EV, the e-NV200 uses a zero-emission lithium-ion battery-powered electric motor to deliver 207 lb-ft. of torque. Nissan says that it has begun testing the powertrain in real world situations, most notably with FedEx in London.
Nissan has not said what kind of range the e-NV200 offers.
It’s likely that the e-NV200 also previews a trial taxi cab since the standard gas-powered NV200 has been selected as the official taxicab of New York City beginning in late 2013.
While the NV200 might cast a larger shadow than the Leaf, Nissan has given it a familiar front fascia. In addition to sweeping headlamps and LED accents, the hood features a blue-accent badge that pops open to reveal a charging port. Like the Leaf, the concept car displayed in Detroit is Aqua Blue.
Inside, the e-NV200 uses a flat C-cluster display designed to work like a tablet computer.
