Knicks star Amar’e Stoudemire is rated day-to-day after he sprained his left ankle in New York’s 99-82 defeat to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Stoudemire, who had 15 points on 4-for-17 shooting in the loss, did not play the final minutes at Staples Center on Thursday night after falling awkwardly earlier in the fourth quarter.
He confirmed the injury postgame in the locker room, the New York Post reported Friday.
Stoudemire said the sprain may put him out of the trip to Sacramento to face the Kings on New Year’s Eve.
“I have it wrapped up. I’ll get an assessment [Friday] on it and see how it feels,” Stoudemire said.
Thursday’s defeat, New York’s ninth straight loss to the Lakers, came a day after the 92-78 humbling by the Golden State Warriors in Oakland.
Stoudemire admitted that the new-look Knicks were showing no signs of their self-proclaimed title-winning potential.
“Our offense is not smooth right now,” Stoudemire said, but added, “It takes time to get it together. It’s only Game 3.”
