Texas Rangers back up catcher Yorvit Torrealba was handed down a major suspension that will keep him out of the Venezuelan League until after the 2013 season. It is unknown if his suspension will have any effect on his status with Major League Baseball.  Read more after the jump.
Torrealba, who struck an umpire in the face after arguing a call, will be suspended the remainder of this season and the entirety of the 2012 Venezuelan season, according to Sporting News. The suspension will total 66 games.
The 33-year-old catcher hit .273/.306/.390 in 113 games for the Texas Rangers last season. Over the course of his 11-year career he has hit .260/.318/.390 with 52 home runs and 309 RBI.
