When Kevin Durant tweets, the people follow.

At least that’s what happened Friday, when Durant’s tweets caused traffic jams on a number of Oklahoma City streets.
In a series of messages posted on his verified Twitter account, Durant informed his more than one million followers he would be giving out shoes at various locations in Oklahoma City, including the Chesapeake Energy Arena, where the Thunder play.

“Aight I’m headed out in the van to spread some holiday hoop cheer in OKC,” Durant tweeted. “Meet up if u wanna make sure #basketballneverstops next yr.”

Durant then tweeted his four planned stops in separate tweets.

Durant has made a habit out of giving gifts away during the Christmas season. Last December, Durant surprised about 120 foster children at Oklahoma City-based Citizens Caring for Children with a visit and gifts, including an iPod shuffle, Thunder-themed Skullcandy headphones and Nike gear.

Durant, the NBA’s leading scorer last season, and the Thunder will open their season against the Orlando Magic on Christmas Day.
