The popular location-based mobile application Foursquare is turning Black Friday into a game with real-life benefits.
If you get tired of fighting off sleepy door-busting campers, try to make your experience a game. You wouldn’t be alone.
A recent infographic released by Foursquare showed a spike of check-ins on Black Friday last year. The most popular locations were Target, Best Buy and Walmart. No surprise there, but I was disappointed at Apple fans, who came in a measly sixth place – behind Toys “R” Us! Shame, Macheads.
Here are some of the deals you can unlock by checking in on Foursquare.
JCPenney: For every check-in between 4am and 1pm, $25 will be donated to the Salvation Army (up to $100k).
Sports Authority: Check in at any of their locations nationwide, spend more than $100 and get a $25 cash card on the spot. They’ll also be awarding $500 cash cards to 20 random people that check in at their retail locations that day.
Aeropostale: Check in at any of their retail locations and receive 20% off purchases over $50.
Brookstone: Check in and receive $10 off purchases over $70.
RadioShack: Through 12/31/11, foursquare users can unlock the Radio Shack branded “So Right” badge by doing “so right” holiday activities (volunteering, exercising, etc.) and then checking in at a RadioShack. For each badge earned, RadioShack will donate $1 to LIVESTRONG.
American Express Small Business Saturday: The day after Black Friday, American Express card members who sync their cards to their foursquare accounts can receive a $25 statement credit when they spend more than $25 at any of more than 300,000 local merchants nationwide.
