Today, I’ve rounded up five really good games that typically have high price tags, but are currently on sale for just a buck. I’m not sure how long these price cuts will last, so if an app catches your eye, grab it pronto!

Contre Jour HD
If World of Goo and Cut the Rope somehow got sucked into a black hole, Contre Jour is what would emerge from the other side. This breathtakingly beautiful and relentlessly addictive puzzler isn’t the most original iOS game ever, but it’s definitely one of the most wonderful.
Jelly Defense
I love a good tower-defense (TD) game, and Jelly Defense is one of the prettiest I’ve ever seen. It’s good on the iPhone/iPod, but it’s really spectacular on the iPad.
Scribblenauts Remix
Nintendo DS Scribblenauts recently arrived for iOS, going under the name Scribblenauts Remix, and it feels as original now as it did two years ago. It’s not perfect, and it’s definitely going to appeal more to kids than adults–but if you’re looking for a unique gaming experience, it delivers.
Shadowgun
When it comes to third-person shooters for iOS, EA’s Dead Space is the gold standard. Or it was, until now. Madfinger’s Shadowgun has claimed the crown by offering some of the best visuals this side of an Xbox 360, and gameplay that’s highly reminiscent of Gears of War. It is, in short, a glorious game, if not exactly original.
Street Fighter IV: Volt
Originally $6.99, this 2D hand-to-hand combat game is noteworthy not just for its sweet graphics and blistering action, but also for the multiplayer mode that lets you challenge other players via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi (the latter enabling online action against fighters across the globe).
