The group are among 12 people accused of trying to traffic automatic rifles, handguns, stolen cigarettes and slot machines, according to reports.
The charges have not yet been made public but allegedly also involve three former NYPD officers, a New Jersey corrections officer and three civilians.
The undercover sting was conducted by the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau and the FBI.
It comes as the Bronx prosecutor is believed to be close to bringing charges against a dozen NYPD officers in a separate ticket-fixing case.
That probe accuses the police of making traffic citations disappear in exchange for gifts, including cash.
