Justin Lew Harris was busted at the altar after getting into an altercation with his mother, who objected to the wedding, police said.
His 55-year-old mom, who was not identified, told authorities her son invited her to the church then attacked her, the Record-Courier newspaper reported.
“As soon as I walked in church, Justin grabbed me by the neck of my shirt and [dragged] me out of the church,” she said, according to a police report.
The woman suffers from rheumatoid arthritis and walks with the aid of a cane, the Record-Courier reported.
Harris, however, tells a far different story.
The 35-year-old told police that his mother arrived at the church “yelling and screaming.”
“The only thing I did was carry her to the car,” he told police. “I would never hurt my mother.”
Pastor Pete Nelson told authorities the woman “was very upset,” and insisted her son should not marry his 30-year-old fiance.
Harris was charged with domestic battery and coercion. Paramedics arrived, but his mother refused medical treatment.
In the end, the couple did not exchange vows.
