Dozens of fire trucks and 100 firefighters were on the street near the 40-story Equitable Building in lower Manhattan yesterday. Firefighters, who got the call at 5:30 p.m., broke windows of the building before getting the two-alarm fire under control just before 8 p.m.

The fire was on the 28th floor of the building, which is next to the park where Occupy Wall Street demonstrators have been protesting corporate greed. The fire department says there doesn’t appear to be any connection between the fire and the protest.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to the FDNY.
