What makes the Pinin so valuable is that it is the only four-door car ever to wear the the Prancing Horse logo on its engine hood.
Built by Italian design and engineering firm Pininfarina in 1980 to celebrate the company’s 50-year anniversary, the sporty sedan was given the nickname of company founder, Battista “Pinin” Farina.
The Pinin will be auctioned by RM Auction in London on October 26 with an expected price of between 540,000 euros and 620,000 euros.
Pininfarina officials told Automotive News Europe it had lost track of the Pinin since the car was sold to a collector more than 20 years ago.
The Pinin that will be on auction in London is the original model that was unveiled at the 1980 Turin auto show. Pininfarina built a second unit of the car, which was shown to company founder Enzo Ferrari, who ordered that the project be killed. This second Pinin was later destroyed.
