Freemon Everett Seay, of Yelm, is accused of attacking his 16-year-old daughter for going to a party without permission, The Olympian newspaper reported.
Seay allegedly sat on his daughter and beat her with sticks before punishing her with the sword.
She eventually collapsed from exhaustion, police said.
“I’ve never seen anything like this,” Thurston County sheriff Lt. Greg Elwin told the newspaper.
Seay was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault with a deadly weapon and his wife, Julie May Seay, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault with a deadly weapon as an accessory, police told the newspaper.
The victim was not hospitalized, but reportedly was badly bruised.
She is staying with family members, King 5 News reported.
