Former major leaguer Milton Bradley threatened to kill his wife when he was arrested Sept. 27 and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.com.

In those documents, Monique Bradley claims the couple had a heated argument during which Milton Bradley showed her a photo of a gun and said, “This is the gun that I’m going to kill you with.” Monique also claims Milton threatened her with a baseball bat during the argument and insulted her repeatedly.

Monique claims her husband had been “emotionally and physically abusive” throughout their marriage. However, she stayed with him because “I genuinely believed that one day I could fix him.”

This wasn’t the first domestic dispute between the Bradleys, and Monique claims Milton also threatened her life in January.

TMZ.com reports Monique Bradley has filed a restraining order.

Milton Bradley, 33, began the 2011 baseball season with the Seattle Mariners but was released on May 16 after hitting .218 with two homers and 13 RBIs in 28 games.

During his 12-season major league career that has included stints with eight different teams, Bradley has been no stranger to controversy. He has had run-ins with teammates, opposing players, the media and even fans.

His best season came with the Texas Rangers in 2008 when he hit .321 with 22 homers and 77 RBIs. That season, he led the AL with a .436 on-base percentage and a .999 OPS and was an All Star for the only time in his career.
