A team of officers and FBI agents plan to search around Albuquerque’s Elephant Butte Reservoir, where they suspect David Parker Ray may have buried some of his victims.
Ray, who died in prison in 2002, penned detailed accounts of sexual tortures and gory burials.
Still, authorities are not certain whether his writings are fantasies or real-life accounts of his twisted exploits.
Among the victims cops suspect may be buried near the reservoir is 22-year-old Jill Troia, who disappeared in 1995. Cops have long believed that Ray was behind her disappearance.
In one of his screeds, Ray described burying a young Asian woman – a description that fits Troia.
Ray was initially charged with kidnapping and raping three women inside the 20-foot-long white trailer he dubbed a “toy box.”
After one of his torture victims fled his trailer wearing only a dog collar and chain in 1999, investigators discovered surgical tools, whips and video cameras inside.
Ray was sentenced to 224 years in prison after her pleaded guilty to kidnapping and torturing that woman and a second victim in 1996. The third case was dismissed as part of a plea bargain.
At the time of her arrest, Ray’s girlfriend, Cynthia Lea Hendy, told cops that he dumped bodies in the Elephant Butte Reservoir and nearby ravines. Hendy was sentenced in 2000 to 36 years behind bars for accessory and kidnapping.
