A family Googled “the easiest way to kill an old person” before attempting to murder their 89-year-old relative for inheritance. The crazy thing is that they made many different attempts and failed. The elderly victim’s adopted daughter, his 16-year-old granddaughter and 19-year-old grandson have been convicted of conspiracy to murder in an English court.

The grandson’s girlfriend, 17, was also found guilty of conspiracy and a 14-year-old granddaughter was convicted of wounding with intent.

The family researched the possibility of poisoning the man with toadstools but then opted for attempting to “frighten him to death” by throwing bricks at his window late at night, prosecutors said.

They also cut the fuel line on his car in the hope it would explode and used the Internet to seek out other inventive ways to kill.

Their Google searches included: “10 easy ways to kill someone with no trace”, “dangerous drugs for the elderly” and “if you hit someone across the back of the head with a brick will they die or just get a bruise?”, according to the Guardian newspaper.

In the end, they opted to attack the man at his bungalow in the city of Winchester using bricks in plastic bags.

The 89-year-old, who lives with his 87-year-old wife, suffered head injuries but survived.

The victim’s daughter was jailed for 17 years for her part in the plot.

The other teenage offenders were given varying sentences in youth detention centers.

None of the family has been named for British legal reasons.
