The Yankees clinched their third consecutive trip to the playoffs Wednesday afternoon, and their 16th in the last 17 years, with a come-from-behind 4-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Yankee Stadium.
With the win, the Yankees eliminated the possibility that the Rays could catch them in the standings, and they also reduced their magic number against the Boston Red Sox to one in the American League East. Both the Yankees and the Red Sox were to play night games on Wednesday.
