Apparently there are iPhone apps that claim to help pimple-faced acne sufferers get rid of their scourge. The FTC has ruled that there is no proof that any smartphone app will cure acne. I’m pretty sure we all knew that, but some developers may have wanted to cash in on the app crazy.

The apps claimed to make use of light therapy which claims that different colored lights can have an affect on acne-causing bacteria. Apparently even though light therapy is a recognized treatment, the iPhone doesn’t put off enough light for any amount of effectiveness. Complaints with the developers of AcneApp and Ance Pwner have been settled.
FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz had this to say: “Smartphones make our lives easier in countless ways, but unfortunately when it comes to curing acne, there’s no app for that.†The next time you hear that “This app was developed by a dermatologistâ€, your best bet would be to turn and walk away.
