Billy Smith, 39, of the 12000 block of South Wallace Street, was arrested Thursday at Ralph H. Metcalfe Elementary Community Academy, 12339 South Normal Ave., after he was called in for a meeting about the two students fighting, said Cook County Assistant State’s Atty. Denise Loiterstein.
After Smith -– a father of seven -– saw that his daughter’s face was scratched in the fight, he became “irate,†according to court documents.
Smith yelled, “I’m going to kill him,†before approaching the 14-year-old boy, punching him, trying to choke him and hitting him with a candy dish, Loiterstein said Saturday during a bond hearing.
Smith was charged with felony aggravated battery and misdemeanor battery. He was held in lieu of $150,000 bail. He is due in court next Sept. 15.
The boy received six stitches in his arm and cuts to his face, she said. Smith’s attorney, Camille Hicks, said Smith’s daughter was also hospitalized from injuries sustained from her altercation with the boy.
