Ogden Police Lt. Troy Burnett said a person called at 1:44 p.m. Sunday to say a neighbor was cutting up a cow in his driveway. The person said they saw a cow being trailered to the home near the intersection of 27th Street and Gramercy Avenue, then heard a mooing sound. Shortly after, the caller said, a pop that sounded like a gunshot was heard and the mooing stopped.
A patrol car was dispatched to the area and found the man in the process of removing the cow’s head. The man denied shooting the cow and told the officer it had been delivered already dead. The officer took information and filed a report that is being screened by the city attorney’s office for possible charges, Burnett said.
If evidence is found the person shot the cow on-site, a charge could be filed of firing a weapon within city limits, Burnett said. Police are checking other city ordinances and state laws for possible violations including disorderly conduct or health code violations.
