A judge has ordered that Prince must pay a perfume company $3.9 million stemming from a November 2008 lawsuit. According to the perfume company, Prince failed to promote the perfume back in 2006. The fragrance was inspired by Prince’s 2006 album, 3121. Read more about the lawsuit after the jump.

Back in November 2008, Prince was slapped with a lawsuit from Revelations Perfume and Cosmetics Inc. who went after the singer and Universal Music Publishing Group for $100,000, claiming they failed to help push a fragrance inspired by his 2006 album 3121.
Well, they got a lot more than that.
According to the New York Law Journal, the company was awarded $3.9 million to cover expenditures it had made in reliance on Prince’s commitment to promote the perfume, 3121.
However, no money is being forked over just yet. The final decision would have to be confirmed by another judge.
The “Purple Rain” singer’s lawyer tells the Journal that they will fight to keep the suggested amount from being confirmed.
Revelations spent over $2.5 million for licensing privileges and agreed to give Universal a 50 percent cut of the proceeds. In return, Prince was expected to help market the fragrance.
The company’s lawyer states that Prince’s refusal to give media interviews and stage in-store events forced the cancellation of the licensing agreement because Revelations failed to meet minimum sales requirements.
“Since July 2007, despite repeated attempts by Revelations there have been virtually no communications from anyone who could commit to or coordinate any promotional efforts by Prince,” the suit states.
