An unidentified 3-year-old boy was fatally stabbed and his mother was critically injured Friday morning during a domestic incident on Chicago’s West Side.
Police were notified around 11:15 a.m. of the incident, which occurred in the 5000 block of West Division St., the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The boy was pronounced dead at 12:18 p.m., while his 25-year-old mother was hospitalized with critical injuries.
A suspect in the stabbing reportedly injured himself while trying to jump from a second-story window to attempt to avoid officers who were called to the scene, according to the Chicago Tribune. The man is currently in police custody.
The mother is expected to live, despite sustaining multiple stab wounds, ABC 7 notes.
