“All those New Yorkers who weathered Tropical Storm Irene with a determined spirit despite many hardships, including shutdowns in transportation services, loss of power, flooding, downed trees and wires, could use a break,” Beep Helen Marshall wrote in a letter to to Metropolitan Transportation Authority boss Jay Walder.

The MTA suspended the subway and bus system at noon on Saturday – and did not restore service until early Monday morning. The MTA declined to comment on Marshall’s request yesterday.

Marshall pointed out that 30-day and seven-day MetroCard users lost two days of unlimited riding due to the storm, “with no compensation.”
