The law, which was adopted by the Legislature earlier this summer, adds more than 20 offenses – including vehicular manslaughter and vehicular homicide – to a list of crimes that permanently disqualifies offenders from driving school buses.
“Keeping our children safe must always be a top priority and by signing this legislation we are putting in place additional precautions that will help protect our students,” Cuomo said.
Included in the new list are a host of sex-related crimes, including promoting a sexual performance by a child, forcible touching, promoting prostitution in the third degree and predatory sexual assault.
Several drug-related abuses were also added to the list, including the sale of a controlled substance in or near school grounds.
