Five armed invaders tied up a family and held them at gunpoint in an affluent Connecticut suburb. They made off with just some jewelry, whiskey and homemade sauce after tying up the family in their North Branford home and threatening to kidnap a 3-year-old boy. “For what happened, they’re doing all right, shaken up; they’re scared,” Detective Sgt. Ken McNamara, a police spokesman, said of the family. “Thank God they weren’t hurt.”

Wearing hooded sweatshirts and covering their faces with bandannas, the robbers burst into the home in the New Haven suburb about 10 p.m. on Sunday, police said.

The brazen home invasion occurred about 15 miles from Cheshire, where Dr. William Petit was beaten while his wife and daughters were murdered in a horrifying 2007 crime.
