Porsche has appointed Audi engineering executive Joerg Kerner, 41, to head up powertrain development, effective October. Kerner succeeds Heinz-Jakob Neusser, who will take charge of developing drivetrains at the Volkswagen brand. Hit the jump to read the rest of the story.

A veteran Audi executive, Kerner began working on Audi powertrain projects at Robert Bosch GmbH in 1986 before joining the automaker in 2004, where he built up the engine and transmission electronics design, software and functional development division. In 2009, he took charge of electric powertrains at the carmaker.
Heinz-Jakob Neusser joined Porsche in 1996 following ten years as a scientist and senior executive at FEV Motorentechnik. At Porsche, he was responsible for various engine development projects, including engine design, before being appointed head of drivetrain development in 2001. At Volkswagen he will replace Jens Hadler, 45, who is leaving the automaker.
In his new position, Neusser will be supported by Ruediger Szengel, 56, who has been with the company since 1985, and will become deputy head of Volkswagen drivetrain development with continued responsibility for gasoline engine development.
