A Bronx man was shot to death while trying to stick up for his little brother during an argument that started over 50 cents!!!! 50 cents???? Unbelievable!! Find out what went down after the jump.
Willmer Hernandez, 20, was shot three times in the abdomen about 11 p.m. Monday after he stepped in as a pack of young punks confronted his brother, Steven, 16, police said.
“Some guys came up and asked us for 50 cents to buy something,” Steven said, recalling what went down as they exited a deli near their aunt’s building on Mace Ave. in Allerton.
“We said: ‘No,’ and one guy came to go in my pocket, but I pushed him back and my [money] and my phone fell out of my pocket and they must have stolen it because later it was gone.
“My brother said, ‘Leave my little brother alone!'” Steven continued. “The guy said, ‘I’m not trying to hear that!’ and pulled out a gun. I said, ‘I’ll give you what you want,’ and he said, ‘Give it up!’
“I can’t remember if my brother was talking but there was no fight. They shot my brother. I don’t know why. He said, ‘I’m going to shoot!’ and he shot my brother,” Steven added.
Willmer Hernandez, who worked at Red Lobster and attended Borough of Manhattan Community College, was rushed by ambulance to Jacobi Medical Center, where he died, police said.
The brothers had gone to the deli to buy food for a trip, which was supposed to begin Wednesday, to Universal Studios in Orlando.
At least three robbers fled the scene after the shooting, cops said. Police had not made an arrest as of last night. Tuesday, Hernandez’s friends cried and prayed as they placed candles on the sidewalk outside the deli. They scrubbed his blood from the sidewalk.
“We really feel terrible. His mom doesn’t know what to do,” said a cousin, Romy Duran, 26. “It’s really hard on his brother.”
Minutes after Hernandez was shot, cops found a 39-year-old man dying of a gunshot wound to the neck outside a building on W. 114th St. in Harlem. The victim, who was not immediately identified, died at St. Luke’s Hospital.
