Finnegan is the team’s lead cornerback, with Alterraun Verner and Jason McCourty battling for the No. 2 starter and nickel roles.

Yahoo! Sports first reported that Finnegan had left the team. He is to make $3.7 million this season, the last year of a contract extension he signed in 2008.

Finnegan was a seventh-round draft pick in 2006 out of Samford. He quickly became a starting cornerback and was an All Pro in 2008.

It was Finnegan who first organized the Titans’ offseason workouts in March amid the NFL lockout, as players tried to maintain their offseason training routines.

If Finnegan’s absence turns into a holdout, he’ll join running back Chris Johnson, who also is seeking a contract extension.
