Tiki Barber could be one step closer to coming out of retirement.
FOXSports.com has learned that Barber, who announced his retirement from the NFL in 2007, worked out Tuesday with the Miami Dolphins. It was his first workout since he announced in March, through his agent, he was attempting a comeback.
Barber, 36, looked good in the workout, sources said, but the Dolphins aren’t yet completely committed to the veteran back.
Miami wants to monitor how its younger backs perform before making any additional roster moves at the running back position.
The Dolphins didn’t re-sign either of their top two rushing leaders from last season — Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams.
Last week, the Dolphins acquired Reggie Bush from the New Orleans Saints in a trade. The Dolphins also invested a second-round draft pick in Daniel Thomas in April. Another rookie who could get some reps during training camp is Nic Grigsby.
Barber, who has spent the past few seasons as a television host, played all 10 of his NFL seasons with the New York Giants.
