A day before the non waiver Major League baseball trade deadline, the Colorado Rockies have traded pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez to the Cleveland Indians in exchange for pitchers Drew Pomeranz and Alex White as well first baseman Matt McBride.
Jimenez was on the mound for the Rockies tonight in San Diego and threw 41 pitches before departing and shortly thereafter, the trade was announced.

A year ago Jimenez finished the season with a Rockies single season franchise record 19 wins. He was 15-1 at the 2010 All-Star Break and was the starting pitcher for the National League in theMidsummer Classic. However, this season he has taken a clear step backwards. He suffered a cut cuticle on his right thumb early on and despite recovering from that minor setback looked like a shell of his former dominating self. He was just 6-9 with a 4.20 ERA entering tonight’s start against San Diego.

This is a clear sign that the Rockies have given up any hope on contending for a playoff spot this year. Ironically, this was seen as the most anticipated season in team history but much like Jimenez , it has turned out to be a disappointment.
