Before his first full practice as a member of the New England Patriots — the team made the trade official Friday — Ochocinco took to Twitter to express his satisfaction with his new surroundings.

“It’s 1 thing to jump and be able to land on 2 feet but I had no idea I was landing in Heaven,” Ochocinco wrote. “Hope all is well on this good Friday.”

Indeed Ochocinco has plenty for which to be thankful. He inherited a top quarterback (Tom Brady) and has a coach (Bill Belichick) who, by all accounts, is a member of the Ochocinco mutual admiration society. And he has a restructured three-year deal.

Only one element stood in the way of a perfect beginning for Ochocinco: the No. 85 that he wore with the Bengals but is donned by tight end Aaron Hernandez for the Patriots.

Make that “was” as Hernandez agreed to give Ochocinco the number Friday. It wasn’t clear what Ochocinco gave Hernandez in exchange.

The newest member of the Patriots’ receiving corps was on the practice field Friday, wearing his trademark No. 85. Hernandez was seen wearing No. 81, the number formerly donned by Randy Moss.

Ochocinco publicly feuded with his former coach, Marvin Lewis, in Cincinnati. But by all accounts, the relationship between him and Belichick is a healthy one.

“I like Chad,” Belichick said before the 2010 season opener between the teams. “I like him as a player. I like him as a person. I like his enthusiasm and the fun he has with football, and I like how he competes on the football field. I have a lot of respect for that.

“An odd couple, but in the end, I think we have a lot of things in common.”

Belichick and Ochocinco grew closer during Pro Bowl practices.

“It became a relationship beyond just a football player and a coach,” Ochocinco said. “He became a friend of mine. He has a lot of respect for me in my game, and I have a lot of respect for him in everything he’s done as a coach.

“We just became really close and fond of each other’s work. He’s one that I look up to tremendously, one that I’ve never played for, but I show the same respect as if he was my own head coach.”

Now Belichick is Ochocinco’s coach.
