One player many considered the jewel of the undrafted free-agent rookies says he will be a New York Giant.

Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich tweeted Tuesday that he has decided to sign with the Giants.

“Decision is made I will be a #GIANT can’t wait to get to #NYC,” Herzlich tweeted. “Thank you for everything.”

Herzlich later tweeted to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter: “I have chosen the #Giants great team, great fit, great opportunity.”

The Giants need to upgrade at linebacker, and Herzlich once was considered one of the top linebackers in college football. However, Herzlich missed the entire 2009 season due to Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.

He recovered in time to return for Boston College’s 2010 season, when he recorded 65 tackles and four interceptions.

Now he’s the latest Boston College product to be a Giant, joining former BC coach Tom Coughlin and former BC standout Chris Snee. Mathias Kiwanuka also starred at Boston College and Herzlich is friends with the defensive end. He wore Kiwanuka’s No. 94 at Boston College after Kiwanuka joined the Giants. Kiwanuka is a free agent and the Giants hope to re-sign the defensive end.

Herzlich is the third rookie linebacker the Giants will need to bring up to speed quickly. The Giants drafted Michigan State’s Greg Jones and South Florida’s Jacquian Williams in the sixth round.
