NASCAR star Kasey Kahne walked away from a spectacular crash in a dirt-track race Friday night, unhurt after his sprint car somersaulted over a retaining wall in Mechanicsburg, Pa.

Kahne, who lost control entering a turn into the homestretch at Williams Grove Speedway, flipped his car twice over the guardrail in the World of Outlaws race before it came to a rest in a grassy area not far from the track’s grandstand.

“Got wiped out in my heat race tonight,” Kahne wrote on Twitter. “Haven’t flipped like that in a long time!”

Kahne, who owns a sprint car racing team, was running in the second heat race of the night, after turning in the seventh-fastest time in qualifying.

Kahne stands tied with Greg Biffle at 14th in the Sprint Cup standings.

Kahne returns to the Sprint Cup for next Sunday’s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis. He won’t race in Saturday night’s Nationwide Series race at Nashville.
