Kris Jenkins’ star-crossed career came to an end Wednesday when the free agent nose tackle announced his retirement on his Facebook page.

“Wanted to let you all know that I have loved the support and respect that you all have given me throughout my career,” Jenkins wrote. “But it is time for the torch to be passed to the younger players. I am going to hang up the cleats! The mind is always willing to play but my body deserves the rest. Thank you for the (opportunities) to play Carolina and New York.”

The 6-5, 360-pound Jenkins was a force when healthy. The four-time Pro Bowler was released by the Jets in February after he suffered season-ending ACL injuries in two consecutive seasons. Jenkins was done for last year after getting injured in the first half of Gang Green’s season opener against the Ravens.

Jenkins was a run-stuffing anchor in the middle of Gang Green’s defensive line in 2008 after the Jets acquired him from the Carolina Panthers for two draft picks (third and fifth-rounders). He had 50 combined tackles en route to his final Pro Bowl berth that season.

Jenkins suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 6 in 2009 before getting shelved again in the first week of the 2010 season. In all, he suffered three ACL injuries in his 10-year career.
