Last night thousands of people, including myself, helped “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” shatter the recorded for the largest midnight showing that was previously held by “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” The demand for “Harry Potter” was so high that many theaters around the country even added 3:00am showings! The movie also broke the record of the amount of tickets purchased in advance. According to Fandango, more than 6,000 midnight showings were sold out before the showings, I know I had my tickets purchased a week before the movie was released! Find out how much “Harry Potter” made last night alone after the jump!

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” sold a mind-boggling $43 million worth of tickets at 3,800 mostly sold-out midnight shows, Warner Bros. estimates today. That far eclipses the $30M midnight-show record set by “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” The Potter finale has an excellent shot at bettering the $158 million three-day record set by “The Dark Knight” three years ago. The weekend’s only other new release, Disney’s “Winnie the Pooh,” will be lucky to make $10 million, box office prognisticators say.
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” has shattered the record for advance ticket sales ahead of its midnight opening in theaters across the country, movie ticket service Fandango said Thursday.
According to Fandango, more than 6,000 of the Friday midnight shows have sold out in advance and venues are now posting additional showtimes for 3:00am.
The film, produced by Time Warner’s Warner Bros. unit, currently represents 93 percent of Thursday’s total movie ticket sales, Fandango added.
