Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has a slight meniscus tear in his right knee and he could be out for a month if he decides to undergo surgery, manager Joe Girardi said.
Rodriguez, who had an MRI Friday, will not play Saturday afternoon against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Girardi said Rodriguez still is being evaluated and said there are two options for Rodriguez. Surgery to repair the cartilage would sideline the third baseman for at least a month, or Rodriguez could play through the injury and have it at the end of the year.
Rodriguez revealed in late June that he had been playing through the knee injury, which he suffered June 19 in Chicago, when he thought about scoring on a wild pitch but decided against it. And as he was pivoting back to third base, he tweaked his knee.
Rodriguez, 35, is hitting .295 with 13 home runs and 52 RBIs this season. It was announced Friday night that he would miss the All-Star Game.
