A barber who refused to do a haircut assigned by his boss was arraigned for stabbing the barbershop owner with a pair scissors after the owner told him to pack up his clippers and leave the shop early Monday evening, police said. Willy Samuels, 29, of 295 Poplar St., New Haven, was charged with second-degree assault and interfering with an officer. At his arraignment at state Superior Court in Norwalk, Samuels, who has a conviction for possession and sales of narcotics, was ordered held in lieu of $50,000 bond. A shop employee said Tuesday morning the owner was released from the hospital and was resting at home. Police were called at 6:38 p.m. Monday by someone who said there was a stabbing at Georgey’s Barber Shop at 605 West Ave., and the victim was being driven to Norwalk Hospital. At the hospital, police found a man bleeding from a superficial chest wound who was waiting to get into the emergency room, Sgt. Lisa Cotto said. When police asked him who stabbed him, the victim told them it was Samuels, Cotto said. The victim, who owns Georgey’s, and Samuels were arguing about customers not being served in the proper order, a police report said. The two got into a verbal dispute, and after the owner told Samuels to clear out of the business, the two began to struggle, it was reported. At one point, witnesses told police, Samuels put the 25-year-old owner of the store in a headlock and pulled him to the ground. Two other barbers were able to break up the two, a police report said. When Samuels became aggressive again, the owner began to swing a pair of clippers on a cord at him, but missed, reports said. Then witnesses told police that Samuels reached up to his counter and pulled out a pair of scissors, and the two began to grapple as the owner told him to put the scissors down, the report said. The wound did not penetrate beyond the muscle and was not life-threatening, Cotto said.
