NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal has teamed up with CuyahogaCounty Prosecutor Bill Mason and the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force to launch a new iPhone app that helps parents protect their children from predators online.Â
The program, called the Shaq Shield, went live Sunday and is available as a free download on the task force’s website, ohioicac.org. It features access to the Ohio sex offender registry and tips for parents to monitor their children’s Internet activity and flag signs of dangerous communication.
The app also provides a glossary of Internet terminology, such as “cyberbullying” and “avatar”, and a list of the cryptic lingo children and teens typically use while chatting online.
The task force is made up of 311 law enforcement agencies, with at least one agency located in each of Ohio’s 88 counties. It works with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in identifying, apprehending and prosecuting Internet predators.
