(FOX)–Sources tell the New York Post that a man with a backpack entered Haven Drugs in Medford after 10 a.m. before unloading a firearm at two employees and two customers in the store. One victim was reported to be a pharmacist, while the other was an 18-year-old female covering a shift for a co-worker.
The Suffolk County Police Department’s Chief of Detectives, Dominick Varrone, said investigators believe a single gunman was responsible for the bloodbath, and that the motive was robbery.
After the shooter fled the pharmacy, a police radio call instructed officers to look for a man with a backpack, the New York Post reports.
The family-owned pharmacy, which is located in a small cluster of medical offices 60 miles east of New York City, opened for business at 10 a.m. When its owner arrived at the scene, he passed out before being loaded into an ambulance.
Officials weren’t immediately releasing additional details about the shooting. A call left for the pharmacy’s owner and chief pharmacist wasn’t immediately returned.
No suspects are currently in custody.
