“The fact that it looks like he’s addressing the issue today one way or another, I don’t know what he’s going to do, is a positive step,” Bloomberg said.

“You can’t just let this go on and on. It’s become a diversion away from all the important things this country has to deal with,” he continued, citing health care, immigration and the deficit as examples.

“He’s got to talk to his family and decide what’s right for the country, what’s right for his family, and what’s right for himself and make a decision,” Bloomberg said.

Hizzoner classified a downfall like Weiner’s — “regardless of who’s at fault and what it’s about” — as a “lost opportunity.”

What Weiner does next and whether he returns to political life is up to him, Bloomberg said when asked if he’d like to see him serve again.
