In a moment we’ll get to Patrick’s account of what city officials had to say about Thursday morning’s Dallas Mavericks championship march through downtown Dallas, which kicks off at 10 a.m. at the Dallas Convention Center and winds up at the American Airlines Center about an hour later. Mayor Dwaine Caraway expects a crowd pushing 250,000: “We cannot stress enough how important it is to come downtown early,” he said during a media briefing held on the plaza. He added: Dallas Area Rapid Transit will run trains every 10 minutes, and there will be 50 buses waiting to whisk parade-goers away from the AAC after the wingding.

As noted since Sunday night, Mark Cuban is paying for the parade — which Caraway said would have cost the city anywhere from $500,000 to $1 million. Said Jim Oberwetter, president of the Dallas Regional Chamber, “The team owner, in the form of Mark Cuban, handled himself with diplomatic skills we didn’t even know he had.”
