Hashtags on Twitter are more than trending topics or twitters favorite tagger Justin Bieber, many companies and brands use hashtags to communicate with their fans and followers on twitter.  Hashtags are being used every where in emails, text messages  and instant messages the question is who invented the #hashtag?
Long Long Long ago back in 2007 (in the tech world that’s eras ago) Chris Messina invented the idea of the  hashtag. Chris Messina, a developer advocate at Google wanted to introduce 2 friends and along in the subject line of the email he wrote the hashtag  #introduction, Chris says “No need for a long preamble when a quick, to-the-point hashtag would do”.
Chris didn’t invent the hashtag to twitter until August 2007 when he asked all his followers to use the  pound symbol be used for organizing groups on Twitter.  Since then it has been used on every social media network. Since then Chris Messina has proclaimed himself the “Hashtag GodFather’.  But before it caught on Chris says ““At first, people who weren’t using Twitter were saying: ‘What’s this pound sign? In the fast paced world of social networking hashtags can some up everything we need to say in either a one word or a quick phrase.  So lets thank Chris Messina for the great idea!!!
