Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney was urging his Twitter followers to recommend hair gels Saturday after confirming he has had a hair transplant.

Rooney, 25, said he was “delighted” with the result after going public with his bid to beat premature baldness and called on his tweeting fans to join an online movement in support of his flourishing follicles.

His tweets came hours after The Sun reported details of his recent two-day treatment at a central London clinic.

“Just to confirm to all my followers I have had a hair transplant. I was going bald at 25 why not. I’m delighted with the result,” Rooney said. “It’s still a bit bruised and swollen when it dies down u will be first to see it. Anyone recommend any good hair gel. Haha.”

United and England teammate Rio Ferdinand was the first to publicly wish him “good luck” but cautioned, “just don’t go down the wearing a alice band route!! You’ll be doing head&shoulders adverts soon!”

Enjoying the fringe benefits of his treatment, Rooney then called for a punning revival of the old-fashioned “here we go” soccer chant, tweeting, “Hi all let’s try and get #hairwego trending.”

His almost 740,000 followers responded, with Rooney quickly updating, “#hairwego trending already that was rapid thx everyone for ur support.”

Rooney’s wife was also swift to distance herself from claims she ordered him to undergo the treatment.

Coleen Rooney tweeted, “Yes waynes had his hair done! His own decision not me asking him, like alot are saying!! Pleased for him and it will look great x”
