My father always quoted the famous Shakespearean saying: “Neither lender nor borrower be.” With that being said, if you have money to spare, give it without expecting it back. If you accept money from someone, make sure it is for keeps. I say if you can avoid either of these scenarios, do so. After all, romance without finance IS in fact a NUISANCE. Read on for reasons why:

1. RISK: When someone borrows money from a bank, they don’t cuddle with the teller. When they apply for a loan, they aren’t swooning for approval. The loan is based on hard core, credit history. Whether you’re approved or not is solely based on the person’s ability to pay the money back. When you loan money to a lover it is basically based solely on emotions and your feelings for that person. Unfortunately, it’s never wise to mix business with matters of the heart. Whenever you loan a lover money, you take on the risk of losing that money altogether because YOU HAVE NO WAY OF CHECKING THEIR CREDIT!

2. BREAK-UP: In the event that you loan a lover money and then soon after you guys break up for whatever reason, you guessed it: YOU MIGHT NOT GET YOUR MONEY BACK! Here’s why: Although you thought you were loaning money to a mature, responsible, and upstanding person…they might just choose to show their azz seeing that the relationship is ending. Yes, you were being kind and considerate when you loaned them the money, but TRUST there is a strong possibility that they WILL NOT show you that same consideration when the money is due. Feelings change, people change and there are ASSHOLES in the world.

3. DELAYED REPAYMENT: So when you owe money on a bill or a credit card, they add late fees and interest if repayment is late. You can’t do this when your lover is late on paying you back. You have to wait it out. In many cases, the person might take advantage of the comfort of the relationship and DELAY repayment…simply because THEY CAN.

4. ASKING FOR YOUR $ IS AGGRIVATING: This is self explanatory. If the person says they will pay you back in two days and 20 days go by and your money isn’t in your hand, things can get ugly. If you’re anything like me, you get pissed off when you think someone is playing with your cash. And at the end of the day, having to ask for it back is the equivalent of asking for money in the first place. No one likes asking for what is rightfully theirs!
