Andre Ethier extended the second-longest hitting streak in Los Angeles Dodgershistory to 27 games with a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh inning against San Diego Padres right-hander Dustin Moseley on Sunday.

Ethier’s streak is the longest in the majors since Ichiro Suzuki also hit in 27 in a row from May 6-June 3, 2009. The last streak of more than 27 games came in 2005, when Johnny Damon, then of the Boston Red Sox, hit in 29 consecutive games.

Ethier is now four games shy of tying Willie Davis’ all-time Dodgers record of 31 consecutive games set in 1969. There was at least one additional streak longer than Ethier’s by a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers, a 29-game streak by Zack Wheat in 1916.

Ethier broke the major league record for the longest hitting streak in April and had 40 hits during the month, tying the franchise mark shared by Mike Piazza and Rafael Furcal.
