Death as a result of prescription overdose now surpasses those of car accidents in 17 states! The death rate due to prescrition drugs went from 4,000 in the year 2000 to 11,000 in the year 2007.
The Obama Administration plans to battle this epidemic by getting some prescription drug monitoring programs into place. They also want to get law enforcement more training on going after both DOCTORS and PATIENTS involved in illegally trafficing prescription drugs.
They hope to reduce prescrition pill related deaths by %15 in 5 years. Skeptics are saying this plan only tackles half the battle. Many are calling for more government funded rehabilitation centers. But way to go to the Obama Administration for taking the lead on the issue!
