One year is all it took for Cam Newton to be permanently set in Auburn lore. He’ll have a statue to prove it.

Auburn has announced that statues of its three Heisman Trophy winners — including one-year wonder Newton — will be erected at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Newton’s figure will stand next to those of Tigers legends Bo Jackson and Pat Sullivan, winners of the Heisman in 1985 and 1971, respectively.

The announcement comes on the heels of Florida’s unveiling of statues of its own Heisman winners — Tim Tebow, Danny Wuerffel and Steve Spurrier.

Auburn’s announcement is generating buzz only because Newton was in and out of the program in no time flat; he did have just enough time to bring the Tigers a national championship, though, and perhaps that is enough.
